GM NAMES FIRST WOMAN TO HEAD GLOBAL PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Mary Barra, a 49-year-old engineer and 30-year General Motors insider, has been named Vice President of Global Product Development.  With responsibility for global engineering, design and quality, she has a gigantic task ahead.   The announcement stunned many in the global auto industry, which has a pathetic record when it comes to developing, retaining and attracting top women leaders.   Here's the USA Today coverage, which included mention of my upcoming book, Powering Up!
